October Kiawah Island Retreat
Kiawah Island exists in its own Low Country paradise - a barrier island resort where the Atlantic Ocean meets pristine marshland and golf history lives on every fairway. Thirty miles south of Charleston, this is where Pete Dye created his seaside masterpiece and where major championships are won.
Here's what makes this place legendary: Kiawah is home to The Ocean Course, site of the 1991 "War by the Shore" Ryder Cup and two PGA Championships, consistently ranked among the top public courses in America. Add in Gary Player's renovated Cougar Point along the Kiawah River and your choice of either Jack Nicklaus's Turtle Point or Tom Fazio's Osprey Point, and you've got four days of championship golf that few resorts in the world can match. We're staying at The Sanctuary, scheduling a bus shuttle into historic Charleston for the ladies to explore King Street, and playing some of the most iconic holes in American golf. This is Low Country golf at its absolute finest.

The Courses
The Ocean Course - Pete and Alice Dye's masterpiece boasts the most seaside holes in the Northern Hemisphere, with ten hugging the Atlantic and eight running parallel. Originally planned to sit behind the dunes, Alice Dye suggested raising the entire course to give players unobstructed ocean views from every hole—a decision that created one of golf's most iconic and challenging tests. Built to host the 1991 Ryder Cup's "War by the Shore," the course has since welcomed two PGA Championships and consistently ranks among America's greatest layouts. The wind is the real architect here, with conditions that can create up to an 8-club difference from one round to the next. Fair warning: this is a bucket-list course that will test every part of your game, but the views and the experience of walking in the footsteps of major championship history make it unforgettable.
Cougar Point - Gary Player's layout reopened in 2017 after an extensive renovation, winning immediate praise for its dramatic marsh vistas and superior playability. The course features smart risk-reward par-5s and extremely scenic par-3s that demand strategic thinking throughout your round. The signature stretch along the Kiawah River showcases some of the most beautiful holes on the property, with marshland framing approaches and ancient oaks standing sentinel over fairways. This is the kind of course where you can score if you play smart, but trouble lurks for anyone getting too aggressive.
Additional Golf - Choose between Osprey Point or Turtle Point for your third round. Turtle Point, a Jack Nicklaus design, traverses diverse landscape and includes three windswept holes along the Atlantic on the back nine. Tom Fazio's Osprey Point winds through lagoons and ponds with wide fairways and nice hole variety, offering plenty of room off the tee while still presenting heroic carries on several par-3s. Both courses provide that perfect resort golf experience—challenging enough to keep things interesting, playable enough to enjoy the Low Country scenery.

Travel Information
Airport: Charleston International Airport (CHS) is your gateway - it's only about 35-40 minutes to Kiawah Island Resort. This is one of the easiest resort-to-airport combinations you could ask for. CHS is a manageable mid-sized airport, so you'll avoid the chaos of major hubs while still having decent flight options. The drive to Kiawah is straightforward and scenic once you get closer to the island.
Getting to The Sanctuary: You have a few options - rent a car for maximum flexibility (especially if you want to explore the island and nearby areas), use a ride-share service, or arrange a private car service through the resort for a more seamless arrival experience. If you're planning to stay mostly on resort property, you could skip the rental car since you're arranging a bus shuttle for your Charleston evening - this way the ladies can explore downtown, browse the shops along King Street, and enjoy dinner without anyone worrying about driving or parking..
